U.S. Attorney Sarah Streicker accused Madigan and his co-defendant, Michael McClain, of “corruption at the highest levels of state government.” Streicker and powerhouse defense attorney Tom Breen laid out their respective cases for three hours, with McClain attorney John Mitchell following up the next day.

Madigan, speaker for more than three decades, is charged in a 23-count indictment with racketeering conspiracy, using interstate facilities in aid of bribery, wire fraud and attempted extortion.
