Call of Duty maker Activision has finally admitted to using generative AI in the development of Black Ops 6, nearly three months after fans had accused the company of creating an “AI slop” Zombie Santa loading screen.

Long speculated and finally confirmed, gaming giant Activision said that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was created using generative AI.

Game-maker Activision disclosed that it used generative AI in order to “help develop some in game assets,” for the game ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.’

Players have long held concerns that generative AI content was being used in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, with one notable example being a piece of art depicting a zombified Santa. This evil Claus had six fingers on one hand, an oddly shaped left hand, and a package that didn’t quite make sense.

Call of Duty has officially confirmed that it uses generative AI, a controversial tool that players suspected was used for in-game items.

While AI (Artifical Intelligence) might be the "in" thing nowadays in creating content, it also has the side effect of replacing people and their jobs. Activision, one of the biggest video game publishers in the world, has now confirmed they are using AI in creating Call of Duty.

In 2024, it was reported that Activision developed the Yokai's Wrath DLC bundle for 2023's Modern Warfare 3 in part using AI-generated content. Later that year, Call of Duty fans noticed that some of Black Ops 6's holiday-themed content appeared to use generative AI, though this was never confirmed.

Activision confirms AI-generated content is used in Call of Duty, including in the newly released Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

Game maker Activision Blizzard confirmed that some of the visuals inside some of its most popular titles are generated by AI. The disclosure, which is listed on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's game page on Steam,
