A magnitude 6.1 earthquake has struck Turkey's northwestern province of Balikesir, causing about a dozen buildings to collapse.

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake rattled Turkey Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake map. The quake struck at a depth of about 6 miles, or 10 km, just 10 km south of Bigadiç, the map showed. Bigadiç is just over 200 miles southwest of Istanbul, the country's largest city.
