A man whose family said has a history of schizophrenia is being blamed for the brutal stabbing deaths of three people, including two children in St. Helena Parish.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to the 1500 block of Sawmill Road or Par Road 37, just off of Leonard Chapel Road in Amite about an apparent triple homicide around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9. One suspect is currently in the sheriff’s office’s custody at this time.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. deputies with St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to an apparent triple homicide at 1599 Sawmill Road in Amite.
