The man who shot and killed a Hinds County deputy over the weekend had seven felony arrests, 18 misdemeanor arrests and zero convictions at the time of his death. This according to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.

Shields, 37, was killed in the line of duty Sunday, Feb. 23, while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Terry. According to Sheriff Tyree Jones, Shields and another deputy got into a shootout with a suspect on Midway Road. Shields was killed. The other deputy was not injured.
