ByteDance now has to show that it’s making significant progress on a deal to sell TikTok to a US-based company.

TikTok briefly went dark in the US over the weekend, after the Supreme Court denied a bid by Chinese owner ByteDance to overturn a law banning it. But it was back after a day with a message thanking incoming president Donald Trump for his "efforts" in restoring the app.

A nationwide ban on TikTok officially took effect in the United States on Sunday, marking a major escalation in the government’s efforts to sever the app’s ties to its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.
