The results of a second — and now final — recount in the still-uncalled race for a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court have affirmed a narrow lead for the Democratic incumbent. Justice Allison Riggs was ahead by 734 votes following the first recount in the race,

The idea that someone could have been registered to vote, came to vote and then has their vote discarded is anathema to the democratic system and simply cannot be tolerated,” Board Chair Alan Hirsch said.

The State Board of Elections will not order a full hand recount of all ballots in the NC Supreme Court Associate Justice contest, after a partial recount resulted in additional votes for the leading candidate,

The final count in the drawn-out contest concluded Tuesday, with Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs leading Griffin by over 700 votes. The board’s decision may not be the race’s denouement. Griffin can appeal to state court, and Democrats have challenged the protests in federal court.
