PORTLAND, Maine — As Black History Month approaches, local organizations are spotlighting Maine’s rich and often overlooked Black history. One such effort is a Black History Walking Tour hosted by Black Travel Maine, held Sunday in Portland.

Family and friends of Portland attorney Joe Lewis congregated at the intersection of India and Fore streets on Sunday afternoon to honor Lewis with a "love bomb" at the spot where he died after being struck by a car while crossing the street earlier this month.

The organizations are both celebrating milestone anniversaries and will join together for the first time for 2 performances of Puccini's classic opera.

Cracker Barrel, specializing in folksy, Southern-style comfort food, has been in South Portland and 357 Maine Mall Road for close to 15 years. The Tennessee-based company has more than 650 restaurants around the country, though its South Portland location was the only one in Maine.

Some believe the administration will alleviate financial pressures and secure the border. Others worry of potential consequences to the climate and immigrants.
