The Los Angeles Chargers added running back Ezekiel Elliott for the playoffs on the chance they needed help behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. Elliott, though, had his Chargers debut hit a snag and he wasn’t active for the wild-card round loss to the Houston Texans.
The vision was that things might change in a better offensive system with an apparent need at running back. Unfortunately for Zeke, who turns 30 in July, that dream has now died before it ever even got started.
The Chargers decided not to move Elliott up, instead promoting Jaret Patterson for the Wild Card game against the Texans. Elliott spent the 2023 season with the New England Patriots in a reserve role and then came back to the Cowboys, the team that drafted him at No. 4 overall in 2016.
