MIDI 2.0 has been around for a few years, so it's nice to see that Microsoft is actually embracing this newer technology on Windows 11 now. It took a while, but we eventually got there.
Microsoft announced that its latest Windows 11 Canary test build includes a public preview of Windows MIDI Services, which supports MIDI 2.0 and updates allowing MIDI 1.0 to run on Windows on Arm.
Windows 11's new MIDI stack further enhances performance with improved timing, reduced jitter in data exchange, and a faster MIDI driver that supports both MIDI 1.0 and 2.0 devices.
