USC basketball commit Alijah Arenas, who is the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, is making significant progress as he continues to recover from a single-car crash that temporarily left him in a medically induced coma.

Arenas, a five-star member of the 2025 recruiting class, is out of an induced coma and has opened his eyes but remains intubated

Alijah was deemed stable at the scene, but he was transported to a local hospital and was briefly placed into a medically induced coma due to smoke inhalation. The family said in a statement that Alijah wrote on a piece of paper that he remembered the smoke from the crash and asked, “Did anyone get hurt?” after he woke up the following day.
