TikTok's app was removed from prominent app stores on Saturday just before a federal law to ban the popular social media platform was scheduled to go into effect.

TikTok was not the only app that became unavailable for many U.S. users. The ban also impacts other Bytedance apps, like CapCut, Lempon8 and Gauth. Apple, in a statement on its website, said it’s “obligated to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates,”

So far, the TikTok ban has only resulted in a brief outage. TikTok, the Chinese-owned video app that’s been banned in the United States went dark on Saturday evening. A few hours later, it was already back for many users.
