A statewide machine recount and a sample hand recount showed Democrat Allison Riggs maintaining her lead against Republican Jefferson Griffin.

The State Board of Elections will not order a full hand recount of all ballots in the NC Supreme Court Associate Justice contest, after a partial recount resulted in additional votes for the leading candidate,

The idea that someone could have been registered to vote, came to vote and then has their vote discarded is anathema to the democratic system and simply cannot be tolerated,” Board Chair Alan Hirsch said.
