The devastating firestorm that rained embers and terror across Los Angeles County has officially come to an end, with fire crews reaching 100% containment on the Palisades and Eaton fires Friday evening.

The 2 wildfires killed 29 people, destroyed upwards of 16,000 structures and burned more than 37,000 acres, officials say.

A brush fire broke out Tuesday near the Pacific Palisades, a coastal neighborhood on the west side of Los Angeles, and quickly exploded.

Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. PST Los Angeles County public health officials issue closures of several miles of beach near the Palisades Fire, citing “Fire debris runoff and pollutants in the water and on the sand [that] may contain toxic or carcinogenic chemicals.”

The Palisades fire — which has invaded Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Topanga and Mandeville canyons — was 65% contained as of Tuesday evening.
