Mercury has a diameter of about 4,880 kilometers (3,030 miles), and the smallest feature visible in the color image is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) in size.
Mercury will glide in front of the sun at 7:12 a.m. Eastern on May 9, according to NASA. It'll reach the halfway point around 10:47 a.m., and then pass beyond the sun at about 2:42 p.m.
