The White House on Tuesday confirmed plans for the Trump administration to soften the impact of automotive tariffs. Current tariffs of 25% on imported vehicles into the U.S. will continue, but the new measures will prevent other adjacent levies such as steel and aluminum from "stacking" on top of them.

The planned concessions to give automakers more time to relocate production to the United States would still leave substantial tariffs on imported cars and car parts.

President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on auto tariffs on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a news briefing.
