More than 8,000 devices were detected outside of Illinois. A majority of them ended up overseas in 140 countries—including Azerbaijan, Barbados, China, Ethiopia, Jordan and Nicaragua.

At least 36 former Chicago Public Schools employees with a "do not hire" designation worked for the district as sports officials, a district watchdog said in a new report detailing other disturbing findings.

In its annual report, Chicago Public Schools Office of the Inspector General highlighted misuse of family income information forms.

"The greatest threat to our bargaining momentum is quite frankly the supreme being of CPS that's in charge of everything," said Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates. Parents and taxpayers are watching it all closely.

Altogether, tens of thousands of laptops, iPads, and cellphone hot spots were lost or stolen during the 2023-2024 school year. As Tara Molina reports, thousands of those devices—bought and paid for with Chicagoans’ tax dollars—have ended up in other countries.
